Finding Foundations

Finding Foundations

Foundation is a challenge for most. Usually once a favourite is found, that becomes a staple makeup product for years. But what happens when that favourite foundation is discontinued, needs to change or you are picking one for the first time. Well, here are three tips to help you get started.

Tip #1

Know your skin type. This is going to help you pick what type of foundation you need. If you have oily skin then you likely will use oil-free products, my current go-to is Dior Forever Foundation. On the other hand, If you have drier skin then I would recommend a creamier foundation. Cle De Peau makes an amazing moisture foundation. There are also multiple primers that can really make a difference in how your foundation sits on your skin.

Tip #2

Talk to an expert. Heading into Sephora, Nordstrom or Holt Renfrew to find the right foundation can be pretty overwhelming. I recommend finding an experienced artist at one of the makeup counters to help pick the correct shade for you. Another great option is to book a private one on one makeup lesson with a freelance artist. It can be a fun way to get advice and update your makeup bag.

Tip #3

Pick the type of coverage that best suits your skin needs. Research or specify how much coverage you are really looking for to your artist. There is nothing worse then getting sold the wrong product. I personally love sheer coverage. I’ve used Laura Mercier’s Tinted Moisturizer for years and it is perfect for me, light weight but enough coverage to feel like I am hiding my flaws. If I need a bit more coverage then I will use more concealer or occasionally break out a full coverage foundation.
